Jan Jozef Chawa had a sister, Michalina, brother Theodore, and a second brother whose name isn’t known.
On the 18th August 1950, my father Jan Chawa came to Australia from Germany. In 1952, he brought his mother to Australia after the Red Cross was able to find her.
He met my godmother, who told him about a friend of hers who lived in Poland and that perhaps he should bring her to Australia to marry. That was my mother, Maria Dul. They began writing letters to each other and on the 6 November 1966, Maria Dul arrived in Australia. She and Jan Chawa were married on the 14th January 1967.
On the 8th January 1968, my sister Elizabeth Chawa was born. Following her, Barbara was born on the 3rd December 1969. I (Krystyna) was born on the 18th January 1971, and my brother Richard was born on 6th June 1973.
We lived in Green Valley, and in 1991 moved to St Johns Park, a suburb of Liverpool City, a southwestern municipality about 30km southwest of Sydney, in New South Wales.
Krysia then moved to Hobart, Tasmania.
